چکیده

Genetic progress in reducing eggshell damage depends on having a measurement that can both predict if an egg will crack during routine handling and whose variance contains a substantial genetic component. We have demonstrated that the measurement of dynamic stiffness, derived from the acoustic resonance of the egg and its mass, fulfils both of these criteria. The heritability of dynamic stiffness is high (0.53) which indicates that a large component of its variance is genetically determined. Furthermore, it has been possible to demonstrate that dynamic stiffness of the egg can predict the probability that it will crack during its journey through a packing plant. The lower the value of dynamic stiffness, the greater the probability that the egg will crack in the packing plant. We believe this is the first demonstration of the relationship between a measurement of quality and actual damage. The measurement of dynamic stiffness, therefore offers an excellent method to improve eggshell quality and reduce the incidence of cracked eggs by its incorporation in to breeding programmes.

Comparative Analysis of the Static and Dynamic Mechanical Eggshell Behaviour of a Chicken Egg

A chicken egg is an already packaged food. An important quality aspect of the packaging material is the mechanical strength of the eggshell. A commonly used technique for the measurement of the shell strength is the quasi-static, non-destructive compression of an egg between two parallel steel plates. The slope of the force-deformation curve is a measure for the stiffness of the shell and for t...

Multi-Damage Detection for Steel Beam Structure

Damage detection has been focused by researchers because of its importance in engineering practices. Therefore, different approaches have been presented to detect damage location in structures. However, the higher the accuracy of methods is required the more complex deliberations. Based on the conventional studies, it was observed that the damage locations and its size are associated with dynam...

SELECTION OF SUITABLE RECORDS FOR NONLINEAR ANALYSIS USING GENETIC ALGORITHM (GA) AND PARTICLE SWARM OPTIMIZATION (PSO)

This paper presents a suitable and quick way to choose earthquake records in non-linear dynamic analysis using optimization methods. In addition, these earthquake records are scaled. Therefore, structural responses of three different soil-frame models were examined, the change in maximum displacement of roof was analyzed and the damage index of whole structures was measured. The soil classifica...

Polymorphism of the SCNN1g Gene and its Association with Eggshell Quality

Eggshell quality is the main trait to assess egg quality. Marker assisted selection can be used to improve this trait. During eggshell formation, a mass of inorganic minerals is deposited. The Sodium Channel (SCNN1) gene family plays an essential role in cation transportation and SCNN1g is a member of this gene family. The objective of this study was to estimate the frequency of SCNN1g gene var...

CRACK DETECTION IN CONCRETE BEAM USING OPTIMIZATION METHOD

Structural damage detection is a field that has attracted a great interest in the scientific community in recent years. Most of these studies use dynamic analysis data of the beams as a diagnostic tool for damage. In this paper, a massless rotational spring was used to represent the cracked sections of beams and the natural frequencies and mode shape were obtained. For calculation of rotational...
